It seems like this historian is a little short sighted, given almost all of his picks for good and bad VPs were in office while I was alive.
But, as far as VPs go, Dick Cheney has to take the cake as one of the best - given his party's agenda. No other man would have been able to merge the interest of idealistic neocons in the state department and the corporate oil mongers running the DOD quite like Dick.
He brought their interests together in perfect harmony and executed a STELLAR occupation that has effectively prevented Iraq from pumping its oil and kept commodity prices at an orgasmic all-time high. Not to mention, he has helped craft a fear-mongering culture that has laid the groundwork for Milton Friedman-loving neocons to push for new invasions in every developing nation for the next 30 years.
You can't deny it, the man is a genius. Too bad he is also the devil.
Let us not forget he also managed to wiggle the Office of the Vice President out of both the Legislative and Executive branches into one autonomous super office with virtually no oversight and more reach then ever before.
LTJ, this is why I'm so glad you work with me. Not only are you super smart, you write killer closing lines like "You can't deny it, the man is a genius. Too bad he's also the devil."

I think Tegan is spot in here. In relative terms Cheney has been masterful. In absolute terms I think he's been a disgrace.
