With all the murmurs about McCain re-launching his campaign Andrew Sullivan makes an important point:
[R]emember they have only signed onto this because the alternative hasIf in the coming days we see an increase in honesty, transparency, and civility in the McCain-Palin campaign it should be understood as a last-ditch effort coming on the heels of failed negative campaigning. The moment of clarity won't be because they've realized the error of their ways. Rather, it will be because their ways weren't working as planned and so they need to try something else. Honesty will be a tactic. In that regard, McCain will prove himself to be the quintessential politician. Let's hope the media realizes as much.
