Obama Needs Biden -- No, Not Joe

Cindy McCain makes an emotional appeal to voters not to support Obama because he hasn't supported our troops:

"I'm a blue star mom, just like Gov. Palin is," Cindy McCain said. "I'm proud of my sons, but let me tell you, the day that Sen. Obama decided to cast a vote to not fund my son when he was serving sent a cold chill through my body.

"I would suggest that Sen. Obama change shoes with me for just one day, and see what it means to have a loved one serving in the armed forces, and more importantly, serving in harms way. I suggest he take a day and go watch our fine young men and women deploy, get on those buses and leave with a smile and a charge."
This would be a good time for Jill Biden to make a name for herself. She also has a son in Iraq, but she knows that this charge against Obama is weak, if not downright deceitful:
Prior to the sole 2007 vote cited by the McCain campaign as justification for this ad, Obama voted for all war-funding bills that had come before the Senate since 2005, when he was sworn in. So did all other Senate Democrats, except for a few absences. As recently as April 2007, Obama voted in favor of funding U.S. troops again, but this time Democrats added a non-binding call to withdraw them from Iraq. McCain (who was absent for the vote) urged the president to veto that funding measure, because of the withdrawal language. President Bush did veto it, and McCain applauded Bush's veto. Based on those facts, it would be literally true to say that "McCain urged a veto of funding for our troops." But that would be oversimplified to the point of being seriously misleading, which is exactly the problem with McCain's ad.
Of course Obama has not said that McCain doesn't support funding for our troops. This is because Obama is intellectually honest. John and Cindy McCain are not.

Also: John McCain once called his wife a cunt in public. Cindy McCain was a drug addict who used a doctor employed by her charity to get her fix.
