Some Sanity is Restored

A federal judge has FINALLY taken a stand against the unconstitutional detention of 17 of the 255 men at Guantanamo Bay. The judge ruled there was no proof that the men, members of the Uighur Muslim minority in Western China, were enemy combatants. After nearly six years of being held without charges, they will be released to caretakers in the Washington suburbs in the coming weeks.

BUT, their struggle isn't over. A deputy assistant attorney general has implied that the men will be illegal once on American soil and that immigration agents may take them into custody once they exit the Pentagon. Some may say it serves them right, because 'suspected terrorists' have no place on American soil. But these 'terrorists' have been proved to be innocent traders handed over by Afghan tribesmen in exchange for a bounty in the early days of the War on Terror's military free-for-all.

They can't be returned to China, because their religion makes them fugitives. They can't join their friends in Albania, because the government is no longer accepting refugees. So, after ruining their reputations and stealing 6 years of their lives, don't these guys deserve a little R&R in the burbs?
